HILTI JOBSITE REFERENCES IN SOUTH EAST ASIA

Ridge Hospital, Bouygues (Ghana)
Using Hilti RE 500 for post-installed rebar’s

The project
The Ministry of Health of Sri Lanka launched the rehabilitation and upgrading project to transform Ridge Hospital in Accra into a regional facility. The construction work were carried out by Bouygues Bâtiment International.

Due to increasing patient numbers, the current hospital is overstretched and the refurbishment is necessary to provide extra capacity. The plans provide for a modern, fully functional facility. The revamped hospital will be in line with international standards and represent one of the most advanced medical facilities in West Africa.

It will include a new 420-bed building, a treatment block and a cutting-edge maternity ward. The building is expected to be completed in 2016.

The challenge
The contractor had to reinforce the former structure in order to upgrade the facility.

Our Hilti Solution
After getting the load details from the design engineers, we recommended a solution using Hilti's HIT-RE 500 V3, a high performance epoxy mortar for rebar applications. Our customer used it in particular for ceiling reinforcement, wall connections and slab extensions.

Civil works and road structure, Queiroz Galvao (Ghana)
Using Hilti RE 500 for bridge deck strengthening

The project
Back in 2013, a contract for the design and construction of an interchange at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra and other ancillary works in Accra was awarded to Queiroz Galvao Construcao, a Brazilian construction firm. The project aimed to significantly reduce traffic congestion in and around the Western Corridor of Accra.

The challenge
In contrast to many lighter-duty fastenings used in building construction, bridge structures must be able to take up dynamic loads over decades. Engineers must therefore always be able to rely on structural joints to achieve the loading capacity for which they have been designed. Long-term loading and fatigue tests and constant quality control thus come as standard with Hilti HIT.

Our Hilti Solution
Hilti got involved during the engineering studies and used the Hilti Profis Rebar software. After several visits on site, we recommended a solution using Hilti's HIT-RE 500 V3, a high performance epoxy mortar for rebar applications. Our customer used it especially for structural bonding and bridge deck strengthening.

Primrose Hill Apartments – Johannesburg – South Africa
How Hilti's RE 500 V3 was used to correct the positioning of starter bars for column reinforcement.

The Project
This apartment block is an ongoing construction by one of Hilti's customers, located in Bedfordview, suburban Johannesburg. This building is meant to serve an increasing need for accommodation to the local student community.
The Challenge

Shift in Starter bars

The contractors had to deal with a difficult situation after their starter bars to be used for column reinforcement shifted.

The steel fixing team was not present when the concrete was being placed and the reinforcement shifted while placing the concrete.

Our Hilti Solution

Hilti HIT- RE 500 V3 -Fixed Shift in Starter bars

At the advice of the design engineers, the contractors reached out to Hilti. The Hilti field engineer came out to site, and after getting the load details from the design engineers, recommended a solution using the HIT-RE500 V3.

Hilti's HIT-RE 500 V3, a high performance epoxy mortar for rebar applications. The design engineers knew that the only solution for this challenge was from Hilti.

Our Customer's feedback

“I am confident in Hilti’s products. It was quick and easy to install with simple instructions. I am also very glad that there is a Hilti center so close to me.” Mveleli Nkanjeni,  Project Manager

Church – Pietermaritzburg – South Africa
Hilti PS 50 Multidetector is used by engineers to determine the structural integrity of an old building.

The Project
A Pietermaritzburg church auditorium extension required the use of the HILTI PS50 Multidetector to determine the bending and shear reinforcing steel of an existing reinforced concrete ring beam.

The Challenge
Calculations showed that the existing bending reinforcing was insufficient to cater for the increased span and loads.

Hilti's Solution
To improve the moment capacity of the beam, a mild steel plate was epoxied and anchored to the soffit of the ring beam using HILTI HUS3 Screw Anchors, in a staggered configuration. Our PS 50 Multidetector Ferrous and Non-Ferrous scanner is used as a nifty tool by engineers to determine the structural integrity of old buildings.
